Year 5/6
Welcome to our Year 5 and Year 6 classroom page
This year, we aim to give our year 5 and 6 children a fun and practical experience in their learning. Our children will focus on developing their mathematical skills and enhancing their writing techniques through invigorating and challenging learning journeys. We will study adventure texts such as Anthony Horowitz’s Stormbreaker and a short animation such as Alma. We will expect every child to begin every lesson with a positive attitude and to demonstrate their best effort to ensure they reach their full potential.
Later on in the academic year, we will explore a variety of fiction and non-fiction text, which will support our writing outcomes, such as promotional text, chronological report and newspaper report. This will allow our children to apply their Year 5 and/or Year 6 objectives to their individual learning across the curriculum.
We are extremely excited about our forthcoming Year 5/Year 6 School Journey experience, which will take place in March. This will be a great opportunity for them to build their confidence and positive approach when faced with new challenges. For the year 6 children we also plan to offer exciting trips and activities after SATs and we know these experiences will be remembered forever.
Your year 6 child will have to complete the end of KS2 Standard Assessment Tests (SATS) during the month of May. It will have a significant positive impact on your child’s progress if you could ensure that they read daily, learn and know their times tables and are able to spell the majority of the words on the Year 5/6 spelling list (which is attached to your ‘Home Learning’ letter).
Please be reminded that as part of the PE National Curriculum, your chid will do swimming once a week until Christmas.
For our Year 6 children, we will work extremely hard, to ensure they have the best possible start in year 7 whilst equally ensuring our Year 5 children are fully prepared to move onto year 6.
We are extremely excited about teaching your child this year and sharing in all the wonderful memories we know they are going to make.
