Reception

Welcome to Reception’s class page! Here you will find lots of information on how to support your child through their first year at Linton Mead, as well as the termly newsletter.

In Reception, we inspire our children to become risk-takers, who are curious and not afraid to try new things. We encourage development of their enquiring minds through play and exploration; our provision both inside and out provides a rich, stimulating environment that will facilitate holistic learning opportunities.

Our children’s growing independence and ownership of their learning is encouraged by having areas in which the children can explore and access their own resources. These include creativity, writing, quiet reading, construction, maths, water and music.  To supplement this, we have daily carpet sessions focused on Phonics, Maths and Literacy.

We are also very lucky to have a large outside area in which the children will be proactive in creating, nurturing and maintaining the planting aspect, hopefully resulting in a glorious bloom next Spring! Our climbing frames, mud kitchen, sand-pit bike track and woodwork area help to develop multiple fine and gross motor skills.

Tapestry

Tapestry is a secure online platform that allows us to share with you photos and videos of what your child has been doing in school each week. You are also able to easily upload any WOW moments that your child achieves at home – we would love to see these! Occasionally we may post important notices as an alert so please ensure you log on regularly.  If you have trouble logging on, or have lost your log-in details, please inform the school office who will be happy to help you.

Reading

Each Friday your child will be provided with a reading book to share at home with you. Please record each time you have shared a book together in their Reading Journal – you can also add non-school books as well if you wish! From Autumn 2 term, your child will also be given a reading book matched to their phonetic ability. This will be sent home on a Friday and due for return on Mondays. Please see the Phonics page for more details.

What does my child need to bring to school each day?

  • A bag with a spare change of clothes (including socks and underwear!) and wellington boots to keep in school on their peg.
  • Waterproof coat with a hood as we use the outside area every day, regardless of weather.
  • Mittens and a woolly hat in colder weather.
  • Peaked cap / hat on hot sunny days.
  • Water bottle
  • Book bag

Please ensure that all clothing is named and don't forget to name any new items that you buy.

In Reception we have different uniform expectations from the rest of the school. It is very important that these uniform rules are adhered to, due to the physical, artistic and environmental aspects of learning in the Early Years. Please see the School Uniform link under the PARENTS page. If you are unsure, please check with a member of staff before purchasing.
